The effect of repeated firings on the marginal fit of In-Cream crowns

Abstract

Inaccurate margins can lead to change in the periodontal tissues and/or may cause recurrent carries. Ceramic materials are considered highly biocompatible. They have considerable potential as an esthetic restorative material. The marginal fit is achieved during the first firing of ceramic material and despite repeated porcelain firings, is retained throughout the entire procedure. The aim of this study was to determine whether multiple firings of In-Ceram crowns produces change in marginal fitness. A master metal model of a central incisor tooth was prepared for a complete crown restoration and reference marks were placed on four side of this metal die to ensure proper orientation of the restorations for measuring the marginal fit at the same location for each sample. Then this assemply, with reference marks, was duplicated. In-Ceram supported restorations which were veneered by Vitadur Alpha ceramics (Vita Zahnfabrik) were build up and fired following manufacturer's instructions. Additional firings of groups ( 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 ) were accomplished in the same manner. The marginal fit of In-Ceram Crowns was effected by repeated firings although found between acceptable limits. But as a conclution, limited essential number of firings is recommended.

Düzensiz marjinler periodontal dokularda değişimlere ve/veya yeniden oluşabilecek çürüklere neden olabilirler. Seramik materyalleri; yüksek bio uyumlu olarak düşünülürler. Estetik potansiyeli oldukça yüksektir. In-Ceram kronlarda marjinal uyum ilk fırınlama süresinde tamamlanır ve tekrarlanan fırınlamalara rağmen bütün işlemler boyunca öyle kaldığı söylenmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, In-Ceram porselen kronlarda tekrarlanan fırınlamalar sonucunda marjinal uyumda herhangi bir değişiklik olup olmadığını incelemektir. Tam porselen kron yapımı için santral kesici dişin metal ana modeli hazırlandı ve bu model üzerinde dört kenarına rehber işaretler oluşturuldu. Daha sonra modelin dublikatlan elde edildi. Bu dublikatlar üzerine In-Ceram kor porseleni uygulandı. Vitadur Alpha porselen (Vita Zahnfabrik, Almanya) in - Ceram kor porselenin üzerine yapılarak, fırınlandı. In-Ceram kronların marjinal uyumu tekrarlanan fırınlamalardan etkilenmektedir, ancak bu etkilenme kabul edilebilir sınırlar içerisinde kalmaktadır. Fakat gene de fırınlama sayısının belirtilen limitler içerisinde kalması tavsiye edilmektedir.
