Abstract

The aim, of this study is to understand how the image is [re]produced, by examining the image of European Union (EU) among university students. This study determines how and why EU image exists; and how it is shaped and resumed in different contexts, according to university students' definitions and identifications. It is observed that the image of EU was evolved from the image of Europe. In addition to this, students remain distant to the European identity and substantially keep their loyalty to their national identity. Their EU image is based on limited knowledge, prejudice and stereotypes. Therefore, there is a lack of confidence in EU that supports the resistance of nation state. This non-confidence is being felt mostly against England, Germany and France which are accepted as "real Europe" and identified as imperialist.
