Abstract

In this study 9 taxons of Aegilops were picked up from 72 localities in Middle Anatolia.j4e.c0/w0sa of these taxons is new for this region. Ae.triuncialis and Ae.cylindrica showed that they could be alternative food sources in terms of either their difference in height or the excessiveness of the locality and their spread in the area where they are found. Furthermore, weights of 100 seeds of the taxons that were picked up from 72 localities were found. The weights of seeds were against the rule that the degree of ploidi is related to size. It was found that the smallest seed belonged to a diploid (Ae.comosa) and the biggest seed belonged to a diploid (Ae.speltoides) too. All these results show that among the natural species in our regions the species Aegilops of are important species.
