THE INSTITUTION OF RELIGIOUS UNCLE IN NUSAIRIS/ARABIAN ALAWİS

Abstract

The Nusairis/Arabian Alawis are one of the religious groups living in the region of Hatay. The Institution of amca (religious uncle) is one of the important institutions in the Nusairis / Arabian Alawis in the tradi- tional sense. This institution is a major in-stitution that has existed for centuries such as the clergy class in the traditional sense and hierarchical levels. The religious teach- ing and values are passed on to new gener- ations significantly through this institution in the society. In this context, the process of training of the young persons who will be to Alawi/Nusairi way takes place under the guidance and observation of religious uncle. The relationship of the candidate, who is under training, with his family is cut during the educational process. This pro- cess covers the important period in terms of the transfer of religious teachings and values to new generations. The ceremony of road entrance is held by notifying of the case to Shaykh who has an important place in the clergy class when the religious uncle decided that the candidate no longer ma- tures and achieves a sufficient level. In this paper, we will try to evaluate the place and basic functions of the institu- tion of religious uncle in Nusairis with the general outline. In this framework, firstly the place and importance of the institu- tion of religious uncle in Nusairis/Arabian Alawis will be discussed and, the way that the institution works will be revealed. And then, the effect of the institution of religious uncle on on Nusairi society and its situa- tion of contemporary urban conditions will be discussed. The method we used in the working process includes the descriptive and analytic point of view rather than the critical and comparative point of view.

Hatay coğrafyasında yaşayan inançgruplarından biri olan Nusayrîler’in/ArapAlevileri’nin geleneksel anlamda önemlikurumlarından biri, amcalık kurumudur.Amcalık kurumu, tıpkı din adamları sınıfıgibi, Nusayrî toplumunda geleneksel an-lamda ve hiyerarşik düzeyde yüzyıllardanbu yana varlığını sürdüren önemli bir ku-rumdur. Toplum içerisinde dinî öğreti vedeğerler, önemli ölçüde bu kurum sayesin-de yeni kuşaklara aktarılmaktadır. Bu çer-çevede Alevî / Nusayrî yoluna girecek olangencin eğitim süreci, din amcasının rehber-lik ve gözetimi altında gerçekleşir. Eğitimaltına giren adayın bu süreçte kendi ailesiile ilişkisi kesilir. Bu süreç, dinî öğreti vedeğerlerin yeni kuşaklara ulaştırılması açı-sından oldukça önemli bir dönemi kapsarve din amcası, adayın artık olgunlaşıp ye-terli düzeye geldiğine kanaat getirdiğinde,bu süreç sona ererek din adamları sınıfındaönemli bir yeri olan şeyhe durum anlatıla-rak yola giriş töreni düzenlenir. Böylecegenç aday, artık Nusayrî toplumunun yetiş-kin bir üyesi haline gelir.Bu çalışmada biz, genel hatlarıyla am-calık kurumunun Nusayrîlik’teki yeri ve te-mel işlevleri üzerinde durmaya çalışacağız.Bu çerçevede öncelikle amcalığın Nusayrî/Arap Alevî geleneğindeki yeri ile öneminedeğinilecek ve amcalık kurumunun işle-yiş biçimi ortaya konulacaktır. Arkasındanyine amcalık kurumunun Nusayrî toplumuüzerindeki etkileri ve günümüzün değişenkent koşullarındaki durumu üzerinde du-rulacaktır. Bildiride takip edilen yöntemise, eleştirel ve mukayeseli bir bakış tar-zından çok, betimleyici ve çözümleyici biryaklaşımı içermektedir.
