Istanos TownshipBecoming Korkudili District

Abstract

This article addresses the reasons and the course of the change in official status of the townshipof Istanos. A township within the Ottoman administrative system was known to be a settlement unit,following districts where mostly the manorial system was applied, and it had heads assigned by thedistrict kadis. Istanos has existed as a township of Antalya, the central district of the Teke Sanjak,throughout almost the entire course of Ottoman history. However, its change in status to the district ofIstanos was a process launched towards the end of the 19thcentury, through the efforts of the localcommunity, who experienced difficulties in travelling to Antalya, together with the reasons that were putforward by the Governors of Konya for the easier execution of state affairs. Nonetheless, this processtook many years to come to completion. Firstly, the Istanos township was temporarily turned into adistrict in 1914, and then permanently, following the completion of the legal process in 1917. The nameof the township recorded in this same period was changed from Istanos to Korkudili, the new namereferring to Şehzade (Prince) Korkut (1467-1513).

Özet

Bu makale Istanos nahiyesinin resmi statüsünün değişme sürecini konu edinmektedir. Osmanlı idariteşkilatlanmasında nahiye, kazalardan sonra gelen ve daha çok tımar sisteminin uygulandığı ve kazakadılarının tayin etmiş olduğu naiplerin bulunduğu bir birim olarak bilinmektedir. Istanos da neredeysebütün bir Osmanlı tarihi boyunca Teke sancağı merkez kazası olan Antalyaya bağlı bir nahiye olarakvarlığını sürdürmüştür. Ancak 19. yüzyılın sonlarına doğru özellikle yöre halkının Antalyaya gidipgelmelerinin zorluğundan bahisle başlatmış oldukları girişimler ile Konya valilerinin devlet işlerinin dahada kolay yürütülmesi adına ortaya attıkları gerekçelerle Istanosun kazaya dönüştürülmesi sürecibaşlatılmıştır. Fakat bu sürecin tamamlanması uzun yıllar almış ve Istanos nahiyesi önce 1914 yılındageçici olmak kaydıyla 1917 yılında da kanuni işlemlerin tamamlanması ile kalıcı olarak kaza halinegetirilmiştir. Aynı tarihlerde adı geçen nahiyenin adı da Şehzade Korkutun (1467-1513) adına izafetenKorkudili olarak değiştirilmiştir.
