A Study of the Practice of Social Responsibility undertaken by International Hotels in Turkey

Türkiye’de Faaliyet Gösteren Uluslararası Konaklama İşletmelerinin Sosyal Sorumluluk Uygulamalarının İncelenmesi

Abstract

The roles and responsibilities of companies have begun to be differentiated. Today, the practice of social responsibility is stated within the objectives of enterprises, as businesses have social as well as economic objectives. In consequence of this differentiation an examination of the importance given to the practice of social responsibility by international hotels in the tourism sector was undertaken. In this context, this aim of this study was to analyse the practice of social responsibility at international hotels in Turkey and the results of this research show that the main practices of social responsibility undertaken by these international hotels concern: the environment, health, education, disaster & poverty, together with some local issues. The results also show that culture, from this research, has the smallest place amongst the practices of social responsibility undertaken by international hotels in Turkey.

Özet

İşletmelerin toplumda üstlendikleri rol ve sorumluluk alanları farklılaşmaya başlamıştır. Günümüzdesosyal sorumluluk uygulamaları işletmelerin amaçları içerisinde yer almaktadır. Ülke açısından önemlibir yere sahip olan turizm sektöründe faaliyet gösteren uluslararası otel işletmelerinin sosyal sorumlulukuygulamalarının incelenmesi bir gereklilik olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır. Çünkü işletmelerin ekonomikamaçları gibi sosyal amaçları da bulunmaktadır. Bu bağlamda Türkiye’de faaliyet gösteren uluslararasızincir otellerin sosyal sorumluluk uygulamalarının incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu doğrultuda 13 uluslararasıotel işletmesinin web siteleri ve sosyal medya hesapları içerik analizi yöntemi ile incelenmiştir.Elde edilen bulgulara göre otel işletmelerinin en yaygın olarak yer verdikleri sosyal sorumluluk uygulamalarınınçevre, afet ve yoksulluk, eğitim, ve yerel konular ve sağlık olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Yinebulgulara göre en az yer verilen uygulamanın ise kültür olduğu belirlenmiştir.
