Concerning the Variations in Poetry of the Oral Tradition: the Poem “O Gelin”

Abstract

The texts of the same poem in the oral tradition vary over the course of time. This change can make significant differences between texts. It is necessary to examine and interpret the reasons for possible changes. Minstrels and poets as transmitters of culture in almost every society are the artists who present the connection between life and art. Yaşar Reyhani is one of the most important representatives of this art form. Topics in his poems are important and sensitive issues that concern the general public. This study investigates the Asik-Minstrel Reyhani’s poem known as ‘o gelin’. The poems of the minstrel were provided from written and audio-visual sources. The texts have been compared to each other, and the different aspects were determined. The number of quatrains of poetry are close to each other. Whether a poem is a variant or a version is an issue discussed. Variations in the reproductions of oral tradition can occur all the time. However, it is very difficult to decide at what level this transformation takes place. This poem, which we consider a variant, describes a subject that has been experienced in real life.

Şiir metinleri belli bir süreye bağlı olarak farklılık gösterir. Bu değişim metinler arasında önemlifarklar oluşturabilir. Oluşması muhtemel değişikliklerin nedenlerini incelemek ve yorumlamak gerek-mektedir. Âşıklar ve şairler kültürün aktarıcısı olarak hemen her toplumda hayat ile sanat arasında bağ-lantı kuran kişilerdir. Yaşar Reyhanî bu alanın en önemli temsilcilerindendir. Şiirlerinde ele aldığı konulartoplumun genelini ilgilendiren önemli ve hassas meselelerdir. Bu çalışmada Âşık Reyhanî’nin ‘o gelin’ismiyle bilinen şiiri ele alınmıştır. Âşığın şiirleri yazılı ve görsel-işitsel kaynaklardan temin edildi. Şiirmetinleri birbiriyle mukayese edilerek bunların ortak ve farklı yönleri tespit edildi. Şiirlerdeki dörtlüksayıları birbirine yakın orandadır. Şiirlerin varyant mı versiyon mu olduğu tartışılan bir konudur. Sözlügelenekte çeşitlenme ve yeniden üretim her zaman oluşabilir. Ancak bu dönüşümün hangi seviyede ger-çekleştiğine karar vermek oldukça zordur. Varyant olarak değerlendirdiğimiz bu şiir gerçek hayatta ya-şanmış bir konuyu anlatmaktadır.
