Abstract
With the development of technology, digital technologies have begun to be used in educational environments and therefore, the concept of digital literacy has gained importance for teacher candidates. This study was conducted to determine the digital literacy levels of social studies teacher candidates and examine whether they differed according to variables such as gender, grade level, and daily internet use. The study sample consisted of 393 Social Studies Education undergraduate students studying at 5 state universities during the 2018–2019 academic year. A digital literacy scale consisting of 5-point Likert-type questions was used as the data collection tool. The data were analyzed using SPSS 16.0 software. Descriptive statistics were presented as the percentage, frequency, mean, and standard deviation, and the independent groups t-test and 1-way ANOVA were used for data analyses. As a result of this research, it was observed that the digital literacy levels of the social studies teacher candidates were at a good level. In addition, it was determined that the digital literacy levels of the social studies undergraduate students showed a significant difference in terms of gender and grade level. However, it was concluded that the digital literacy levels of the social studies undergraduate students did not differ significantly in terms of the daily internet usage time and daily social network usage time.
