An evaluation of quality of life fo llow ingc oronary artery bypass graft surgery

Abstract
Background: This study aims to evaluate pre- andpostoperative quality of life of the patients who underwentcoronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.Methods: The study included a total of 195 patients (159males, 36 females; mean age 56.8±8.5 years; range, 32 to78 years) above 18 years of age who had no communicationproblem and underwent elective CABG in a training andresearch hospital in Istanbul. The quality of life wasmeasured using the Short-Form 36 (SF-36) preoperativelyand at six weeks and one year postoperatively.Results: Patients mean scores for sub-aspects of thequality of life were significantly increased at six weeks andone year postoperatively compared to preoperative values(p<0.001). Compared to preoperative period, the mostsignificant increases were in scores for social function,physical role, and changes in health status during thepreceding year at one year postoperatively.Conclusion: The quality of life of the patients increased inall aspects in the postoperative period.

Amaç: Bu çalışmada koroner arter baypas greft (KABG)ameliyatı geçiren hastaların ameliyat öncesi ve sonrasıyaşam kaliteleri değerlendirildi.Çalışmaplanı: Çalışmaya İstanbulda bir eğitim vearaştırma hastanesinde elektif KABG ameliyatı geçiren,18 yaş üzeri ve iletişim sorunu bulunmayan toplam 195hasta (159 erkek, 36 kadın; ort. yaş 56.8±8.5 yıl; dağılım32-78 yıl) dahil edildi. Yaşam kalitesi ameliyattan önceve ameliyattan altı hafta ve bir yıl sonra Kısa Form 36(KF-36) ile ölçüldü.Bul gu lar: Hastaların ameliyattan altı hafta ve bir yılsonraki yaşam kalitesi alt boyut puan ortalamalarıameliyat öncesi değerlere göre anlamlı derecede arttı(p<0.001). Ameliyat öncesine göre en fazla artış ame-liyattan bir yıl sonra sosyal fonksiyon, fiziksel rol veönceki bir yıl süresince sağlıktaki değişiklik puanla-rında oldu.Sonuç: Hastaların yaşam kalitesi ameliyat sonrası dönem-de tüm boyutlarda artış gösterdi.
