Abstract
Background/Aims: In this trial, the effects of omeprazole, which is a gold standard treatment in gastroesophageal reflux disease, on salivary glands was investigated by a non-invasive scintigraphic method. Methods: The study included 12 patients (seven women, five men, average age 42 years) with endoscopy-proven reflux esophagitis, grade I or grade II. Omeprazole 20 mg bid was administered orally for 30 days to all patients. To evaluate the effects of omeprazole, salivary scintigraphy was performed in the fasting state before and after 30 days of omeprazole therapy, with two parameters, uptake ratio and excretion ratio, being used to evaluate salivary gland changes during scanning. Pre-treatment and post-treatment studies were compared. Uptake ratio and excretion ratio of the parotid were expressed as mean ± SD. The differences between pretreatment and post-treatment measurements were evaluated by Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results: The uptake ratio and excretion ratio were similar before and after therapy (1.72± 0.12 vs 1.77±0.13 and 29.58±4.07 vs 31.18±4.97, respectively >0.05). Conclusions: Our findings did not show any impairment of salivary functions following omeprazole treatment.
Özet
Amaç: Bu çalışmada gastroözefageal reflü hastalığında altın standart tedavi elemanı olan omeprazolün tükrük bezlerine olan etkileri noninvaziv metod -sintigrafi ile değerlendirildi. Yöntem: Çalışmaya 1-2 derece endoskopi ile doğrulanmış reflü özefajiti olan 7'si kadın ve 5 'si erkek toplam 12 olgu(yaş ortalaması 42 yıl) alındı. Omeprazol tüm olgulara 2X20 mg olarak 30 gün verildi. Omeprazolün etkilerini araştırmak üzere tedavi öncesi ve 30 günlük tedavi sonrası tükrük bezi sintigrafisi yapıldı. Tükrük bezi fonksiyonları değerlendirmek üzere uptake ve excretion oranları kullanıldı. Bulgular: Tedavi öncesi ve sonrası değerleri Wilcoxon signed rank testi ile istatiksel açıdan anlamlılık açısından karşılaştırıldı. Tedavi öncesi uptake oranı 1.72± 0.12 ve excretion oranı 29.58±4.07 iken tedavi sonrası 1.77±0.13 ve 31.18±4.97 olarak saptandı (p>0.05). Sonuç: Bu çalışmada omeprazolün tükrük bezi fonksiyonlarını etkilemediği saptanmıştır.
