Özet

The biological activities of water-soluble extracts obtained from the flatfish (Pleuronectes obscurus) tail fin, which is a waste material generated by the fish processing industry were investigated in this study. The flatfish extract inhibited lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 preadipocyte cells during their differentiation in a concentration-dependent manner. Furthermore, it downregulated the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) ? and CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein (C/EBP) ?, which are the key transcription factors, involved in adipocyte differentiation. Additionally, we isolated a differentiation-inhibiting glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 30-kDa from the flatfish extract was isolated. These results suggest that several glycoproteins in the flatfish extract, particularly purified 30-kDa glycoprotein, inhibits adipocyte differentiation by suppressing the expression of PPAR ? and C/EBP ??.
