The Reflections of Turkey’s Energy Policies on Russian Press: The Case of Nezavisimaya Gazeta

Abstract
This study focuses on the reflections of Turkey’s energy policies on the Russian press in the case of Nezavisimiya Gazeta. Total 142 articles were examined in the context of the study which took place in the Nezavisimaya Gazeta between 2000 and 2015 in relation to the international energy projects with a participation of Turkey. Teun van Dijk’s “Critical Discourse Analysis” method was applied to the study, the objective of which was to reveal how the Russian media addressed to the subject of the Turkey’s energy policies and what kind of a discourse it created in the energy news taken place in the Nezavisimaya Gazeta. By means of the conducted study it was revealed that the Russian newspaper Nezavisimaya Gazeta didn’t demonstrate an unbiased position in preparing the news related to Turkey’s energy policies, and the subject was considered from the aspect parallel to the point of view of the officials, represented in the Russian government. As a consequence, the discourse performs the function of ideological state apparatus by reproducing the dominant ideology.

Bu çalışmada Nezavisimaya Gazeta örneğinde Türkiye’nin enerji politikalarının Rus basınındaki yansımalarına odaklanılmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında Nezavisimaya Gazeta’da 2000-2015 tarihleri arasında yer alan ve Türkiye’nin katılımcısı olduğu uluslararası enerji projeleriyle ilgili toplam 142 haber incelenmiştir. Amacı, Türkiye’nin enerji politikaları konusunun Rus basını tarafından nasıl ele alındığını ve Nezavisimaya Gazeta’da yer alan enerji haberlerinde nasıl bir söylem oluşturulduğunu ortaya koymak olan çalışmada, Teun van Dijk’ın Eleştirel Söylem Analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Yapılan çalışmayla Nezavisimaya Gazeta’nın Türkiye’nin enerji politikalarıyla ilgili haber yapımında tarafsız bir duruş sergileyemediği, konuya Rusya hükümetinin resmi bakış açısına paralel bir perspektiften baktığı ve sonuç olarak ideolojik devlet aygıtı işlevini yerine getirerek egemen ideolojiyi yeniden ürettiği ortaya konulmuştur.
