Abstract

When the food supply, which is the most important of the army needs in the years of national struggle, is examined in terms of resources, how to fight the supply problems; Most of the supply of sanitary materials and supplies on many fronts opened in World War I were obtained from warehouses in Istanbul; In the next period, it was tried to be provided by transfers over Baghdad, Mosul, Diyarbakir and Elazig lines. However, in July 1922, it is seen that the number of people that need to be fed, exceeding 200000 and 78800 animals. However; the sum of food items in divisions, corps, army, front and range warehouses; It is recorded in the records that there are 1317 tons of bread, 111 tons of food, 421 tons of meat and 495 tons of feed. Nutritional expense for a corps; daily 17 tons of bread, 7 tons of food and 25 tons of feeder. For the cavalry corps; 6 tons of bread a day, 2 tons of meal and 32 tons of feed are mentioned in the sources. Sanitary materials and supplies collected in Afyonkarahisar in the War of Independence in order to establish closeness to war fronts; It was transferred to Ankara, Sivas, Konya, Erzurum and Diyarbakır warehouses. Since it is the weakest public transportation system here, it was not possible to supply materials to the desired place at any time. In addition, the assignment of those who are tasked with this job for the transportation of the injured has made the situation even worse. Another problem was that during the withdrawal of the Greek army from Sakarya, the supply of troops from the Garp Front troops, which had crossed the west of Sakarya, had been in a difficult situation since the Greek army destroyed the land and railway bridges they had come across. In this regard, on the Garp Front, where 100,000 people and 25,000 animals should be fed; We read in the reports that only 4 days of bread and 10 days of edible remained in the last week of August. In addition to the nutritional problem, the Garp Front has made an important progress in the fight against infectious diseases. Although there was a sudden score (vitamin C deficiency) in the month of December between the continents, plenty of vegetables, vinegar, lemon and citrus were drawn from Adana and Antalya and distributed to the troops, thus preventing this disease in a short time. Here, the superior efforts of Hilâl-i Ahmer (Kızılay) Society should also be mentioned. In a country that has been occupied because of the conditions of war, we must carry with us as a debt which must always be remembered under what conditions and sacrifices the services rendered against the situations that are considered negative while being in poverty with a tired people.
