An econometric approach on trade and economic growth in EU-27 countries

AB-27 ülkelerindeki ticaret ve ekonomik büyüme üzerine ekonometrik bir yaklaşım

Abstract

The concept of trade, which reveals the competitiveness of countries, and the concept of economic growth, which is encountered in the vitality of the global economy, has been discussed in various contexts with different country groups in the literature. The EU, which is a country group worth investigating due to its characteristic structure, is re-addressed as EU-27 in most studies in the literature, with the leaving of UK from the group. In this context, this study examines the effect of trade deficit or surplus in EU-27 countries on economic growth with a large data set with an econometric approach. As a result of the findings, it is stated that the trade balance has a lagged effect on economic growth.

Özet

Ülkelerin rekabet gücü göstergelerinden kabul edilen ve ticari faaliyetlerle ilişkisi son derece mühim olan ekonomik büyüme kavramı literatürde farklı ülke grupları için ele alınmıştır. Ancak birbirlerine olan coğrafi yakınlıkları ve ikili ticaret ilişkileri ile öne çıkan AB grubu ülkeleri ile bu iki kavram üzerine yeterli çalışma bulunmamaktadır. Karakteristik yapısından dolayı araştırılmaya değer bir ülke grubu olan AB, İngiltere’nin de gruptan ayrılması ile literatürdeki çoğu incelemede aB-27 olarak tekrar ele alınmaktadır. Bu bağlamda bu çalışma AB-27 ülkelerindeki ticaret açığı ya da fazlasının ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkisini geniş bir veri seti ile incelemiştir. Bulgular neticesinde ticaret dengesinin ekonomik büyüme üzerinde gecikmeli bir etkiye sahip olduğu ifade edilmektedir.
