Abstract
Norbert Elias’ theory of civilization tries to understand the civilized human in both psychological and sociological processes. According to Elias; the transformation of human and the transformation of society is a whole that cannot be considered separately. The person in this transformation process; with the effect of external coercions, internalizes her/his own behavior and establishes a self control mechanism for herself/himself. The self control mechanism becomes stronger over time so that the person begins to put the pressure on herself/himself in such a way that no external coercion can be so effective. In our study; while trying to elaborate on how human nature evolves from natural to social according to Elias’ theory, we also tried to examine criticisms of his theory and his views as an answer.
