Abstract
The different answers given by various schools to the question “how should we live?” in ancient Greek philosophy are largely characterized as eudaimonistic: The ultimate goal of human life is eudaimonia which comprises virtue at the heart. Considered among the minor Socratic schools and embracing a distinctive hedonistic moral philosophy, the Cyrenaic School seems to be outside of this general framework in the light of the testimonies about them from the scanty ancient sources. This paper aims to justify the claim that the School’s moral theory is incompatible with the traditional Greek eudaimonism, by means of the sceptical epistemology embraced by the School. To this aim, it is asserted that the School holds three basic views depended on their epistemology. Thereby, it is tried to attest that the School rejects the very assumptions behind the concept of the eudaimonism in line with these views.
