Anaesthesia techniques for caesarean operations: retrospective analysis of last decade

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The technique of anaesthesia in cesarean sections is selected according to the patient's clinical presentations, experience of the anesthesist and the patient s request. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anaesthesia methods which was employed in our clinic in last decade (2003-2012). METHODS: In this study; the records that are stored in the hospital computer system of cesarean operations performed between the years of 2003-2012 at Anaesthesia University Medical Faculty were researched. Annual distribution of methods of anaesthesia in operations were analysed. RESULTS: In our clinic, during the years of 2003-2012, a total number of 9049 cesarean operations have been performed. Application of general anaesthesia was 45% and it was 54% for regional anaesthesia. While regional anaesthesia application rate was 34% in 2003, this ratio increased to 69% in 2012. The most commonly used method of regional anaesthesia was spinal anaesthesia (34%) in 2003, it was spinal anesthesia (41%) and combined spinal-epidural anaesthesia (27%) in 2012. CONCLUSION: As a result; the most commonly used anaesthesia technique for cesarean operations was spinal anaesthesia in our clinic in years of 2003-2012. The most widely used regional anaesthetic method in our clinic was spinal anaesthesia. A significant increase has been in the use of combined spinal-epidural anaesthetic technique in the last two years.

AMAÇ: Sezaryen ameliyatlarında anestezi yöntemi; hastanın klinik bulguları, anestezistin tecrübesi ve hastanın isteğine göre seçilir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, son 10 yılda (2003-2012) kliniğimizde yapılan sezaryen ameliyatlarındaki anestezi uygulamalarının değerlendirilmesidir. YÖNTEMLER: Bu çalışmada, Atatürk Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesi Ameliyathanesinde 2003-2012 yıllarında gerçekleştirilen sezaryen ameliyatlarının hastane bilgisayar sistemindeki kayıtları incelendi. Ameliyatlarda uygulanan anestezi yöntemlerinin yıllara göre dağılımı analiz edildi. BULGULAR: Kliniğimizde 2003-2012 yılları arasında, toplam 9049 sezaryen ameliyatı gerçekleştirildi. Hastaların %45inde genel anestezi, %54ünde bölgesel anestezi uygulandığı bulundu. Bölgesel anestezi uygulama oranı 2003 yılında %34 iken 2012 yılında bu oranın %69a yükseldiği tespit edildi. En sık kullanılan bölgesel anestezi yöntemleri, 2003 yılında spinal anestezi (%34), 2012 yılında spinal anestezi (%41) ve kombine spinal-epidural anestezi (%27) olduğu bulundu. SONUÇ: Kliniğimizdeki sezaryen ameliyatlarında 2003-2012 yıllarında en yaygın kullanılan anestezi yöntemi bölgesel anestezidir. Kliniğimizde en yaygın kullanılan bölgesel anestezi yöntemi spinal anestezidir. Son 2 yılda kombine spinal-epidural anestezi tekniğinin kullanımında önemli bir artış vardır.
