HUMAN AND ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF DICLE (TIGRIS) SECTION OF SOUTHEASTERN ANATOLIA REGION IN MIDDLE AGES

Abstract
This study aims to reveal the human and economic characteristics of the Dicle (Tigris) Section in the historical process. Cities, which constitute one of the most important evidences of human change in space, are important in understanding the cultural characteristics of societies that existed in the past and determining the socio-economic variables in settlement s. If the historical saving and geographical characteristics of cities are analyzed correctly, they can produce better solutions to today's problems and make better plans for the future. Dicle (Tigris) Section which is the subject of the research, is located in Southeastern Anatolia Region today. The section, which is located at the crossroads of the roads connecting the east to the west and the north to the south and which was dominated by different states throughout the history of the settlement, became an important settlement center with its socio-economic and cultural characteristics and gained a unique form. The aim of this study is to reveal the human and economic characteristics of the Dicle (Tigris) Section in the Middle Ages by examining the works of Islamic geographers. In order to realize this aim, were examined the works of Islamic geographers from 9th to 14th centuries. In this study, were emphasized the human and economic characteristics of the Dicle (Tigris) Section were evaluated in the historical process and the factors that contributed to this development. As a result of the study, it was concluded that there were different ethnic groups in the Dicle (Tigris) Section in the Middle Ages and that the cities were economically rich and productive at the same time as cultural and educational centers. The main products are produced here weaving, various fruits and vegetables, mohair goats, lime and glass products etc.
Özet
Bu çalışma, tarihi süreç içerisinde Dicle Bölümü’nün beşeri veekonomik özelliklerini ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Beşerifaaliyetlerin doğal ortamdaki değişimin en önemli göstergelerinden biriolan şehirler, geçmişten günümüze kadar toplumların kültürelözelliklerini anlamak ve yerleşmede sosyo-ekonomik değişimi açıklamakaçısından ayrıca önemlidir. Eğer şehirlerin tarihi birikimleri vecoğrafyaları doğru analiz edilirse, bugünkü sorunlarına daha iyi çözümlerüretebilir ve geleceğe dair planlamalar daha iyi yapılabilir.Araştırmanın konusunu oluşturan Dicle Bölümü, bugünGüneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesi’nde yer almaktadır. Anadolu’da doğuyubatıya, kuzeyi güneye bağlayan yolların kavşağında bulunan ve yerleşmetarihi boyunca farklı devletlerin hâkimiyetinde kalan bölüm, sosyoekonomik ve kültürel özellikleriyle önemli bir yerleşim merkezi olmuş vekendine özgü özellikler kazanmıştır.Bu çalışmanın amacı İslam coğrafyacılarının eserlerininincelenmesiyle Dicle Bölümü’nün Orta Çağ’daki beşeri ve ekonomiközelliklerini ortaya koymaktır. Bu amacı gerçekleştirmek amacıyla 9 ile14. yüzyıllar arasına ait İslam coğrafyacılarının eserler incelenmiştir. Buçalışmada tarihsel süreçte Dicle Bölümü’nün beşeri ve ekonomiközellikleri değerlendirilmiş, bu gelişimi sağlayan faktörler vurgulanmıştır.Çalışma ile Orta Çağ’da Dicle Bölümü’nde günümüze kadar ulaşanfarklı etnik grupların olduğu, bölümün şehirlerinin ekonomik açıdanzengin, üretken ve aynı zamanda birer kültür ve eğitim merkezi olduğusonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma ile Dicle Bölümü’ne ait ürünlerindünyaca tanındığı belirlenmiştir. Burada üretilen ürünlerin başında dokuma, çeşitli meyve ve sebze, tiftik keçisi, kireç ve cam ürünlerigelmektedir.
