Family Life Events in Printed Media

Abstract

Introduction: Assuredly, it is not possible for the individuals who form the family and the family to think separately from the social structure they live in. Family is determined by community's political, religious, economic, social and cultural structures and also it affects all these structures. Understanding the family means to understand its subsystems, structure, function, life cycle, development and life events. The media which has an active role in the process of people's perception and interpretation of the world they live in, has a strong effect on the establishment of family perception and determining family life. Method: In the study, document analysis method and content analysis technique which are qualitative research methods are used. Family issue topics in national scale newspapers were evaluated by content analysis. Total of 120 day edition of 30 calendar days of 4 national newspapers determined with a precondition for reaching widest audiences and largest social groups are studied. In the first stage, 545 family life events were detected by 11.173 news searches. All family life events news detected in the second phase were analyzed one by one. Results: The findings of the study are that the community is sitting on a ground based on unequal, unjust and power relations, just like the community itself. It is observed that violence, harassment, rape, gender discrimination and abuse are declared untouchable and continue to exist within the family as a holly structure, and that they also have a cycle that reproduces itself through mechanisms in the same structure. Conclusion: It has been found that the media only make life events such as violence, murder, suicide, and accident visible and even take it one step further and normalize these life events to the same unequal, masculine, masochistic, remote and victimized victim.

Giriş: Aileyi ve aileyi oluşturan bireyleri, içinde yaşadıkları toplumsal yapıdan ayrı düşünmek elbette mümkün değildir. Aile içinde bulunduğu toplumun siyasal, dini, ekonomik, sosyal ve kültürel yapısıyla belirlenmekte ve aynı zamanda tüm bu yapıları etkilemektedir. Aileyi anlamak, toplumu anlamak için nasıl bir elzem ise toplumu anlamak da aileyi anlamak için bir ön koşuldur. Çok boyutlu bir kavram olan aileyi anlamak; alt sistemlerini, yapısını, işlevlerini, yaşam döngüsünü, gelişimini, yaşam olaylarını anlamak demektir. Bu çalışma ile, aileyi anlamanın bir boyutu olarak, ailelerin yaşam olaylarına ilişkin genel toplumsal bakışı anlamaya yönelik bilgi üretmek amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmada, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olan doküman analizi yöntemi ve içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Toplumsal yaşamın, en etkili güçlerinden birisi olan medyanın güçlü bir kolu olan yazılı basın seçilmiş ve geniş kitlelere ulaşma ve farklı toplumsal kesimlere hitap etme ön koşuluyla belirlenen 4 ulusal gazetenin, 30 takvim gününe ait toplam 120 günlük baskısı üzerinde çalışılmıştır. İlk aşamada, 11.173 haber taramasıyla 545 aile yaşam olayı haberi tespit edilen çalışmada, ikinci aşamada tespit edilen tüm aile yaşam olayı haberleri tek tek analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular: Çalışmada karşılaşılan sonuç, ailenin de tıpkı toplumun bizzat kendisi gibi eşitsiz, adaletsiz ve güç ilişkilerine dayalı bir zemin üzerinde oturduğudur. Şiddet, taciz, tecavüz, cinsiyet ayrımı ve istismarın dokunulmaz ilan edilip, kutsanan bir yapı olarak aile içinde varlığını sürdürdüğü ve yine aynı yapı içindeki mekanizmalarla kendini yeniden üreten bir döngüye de sahip olduğu bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Medyanın yalnızca şiddet, cinayet, kadın cinayeti, intihar, kaza gibi yaşam olaylarını görünür kıldığı ve hatta bir adım daha ileri götürüp normalleştirdiği ve bu yaşam olaylarını aynı eşitsiz, eril, sorgulamaktan uzak ve mağduru tekrar mağdur eden bir dille verdiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
