Studies in the VNTR region of intron 1 of p53 gene in Turkish population and retinoblastoma cases

Abstract

Allellc variation of the variable number tandem repeat region in intron 1 of the human p53 gene in the Turkish population and association with retinobiastoma was studied in 68 healthy unrelated individuals and 17 retinobiastoma cases. For this purpose polymerase chain reaction amplification followed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis was applied. No association between a specific variable number tandem repeat allele and retinobiastoma was detected. [Turk J Cancer 1997;27(1):74-7]
