Fibrolamellar variant of hepatocellular carcinoma: A case report

Abstract

A case of fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma associated with large transition zones and focal nodular hyperplasia has been described. These components are adjacent but can be identified by both gross and microscopic examinations. Following the diagnosis by needle biopsy, extended left hepatectomy has been performed. Bilobar fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma with 3 metastatic lymph nodes was found. Our patient has survived 7 months after the operation but nodular lesions have recurred. This distinct variant of the hepatocellular carcinoma has been presented here because of its rarity in our country.
