Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism as a complication of clozapine treatment

Abstract
Clozapine is an atypical antipsychotic drug that is useful in treatment-resistant psychosis. Its most common adverse effects are agranulocytosis, epileptic seizures and pulmonary embolism. Pulmonary embolism seems to occur usually in the first 3 months of clozapine treatment. In this report, we present a case with deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism as a complication of clozapine.

Klozapin (Leponex®), klasik tedaviye yanıt vermeyen ağır şizofreni tedavisinde tercih edilen atipik antipsikotik bir ilaçtır. En sık yan etkileri agranülositoz, epilepsi nöbetleri ve pulmoner embolizmdir. Pulmoner embolizm genellikle klozapin tedavisinin ilk 3 ayında görülür. Biz, klozapin tedavisi sonucu derin ven trombozu ve pulmoner embolizm gelişen bir olguyu sunduk.
