Abstract

As physicians encounter an increasingly diverse patient population, socioeconomic circumstances, religious values and cultural practices may present barriers to the delivery of quality health care. While faith and religion will not be a problem for every patient, religious beliefs during an operating room visit may lead to ethical confl icts in patient-physician relationships. As healthcare workers, we must respect the autonomy of the patient and have the perspective and skill to recognize them for the safety and care of our patients.
