Secret talks of the Republic period in Turkey, (1936-1937)

Abstract

This article focuses on the secret talks or the sexual schooling books of Dânış Remzi Korok (1936 1937), who is an important figure regarding the sexuality politics of the republic period , produced one of theexceptional written public texts but stayed as an unheard voice of the Turkish modernization and citizenship studies. Korok s secret talks reveal the sexual citizenship and the biopolitics criteria of the republic period. These talks transfer knowledge and secrets about sexual life for men and women; the young and the old, married and widowed. The tone and style of these secret talks are not only sincere and friendly but also didactic, advisable and critical. Moreover, these talks advocate sexual desires and relationships as constituents of human rights on the condition that they are suitable to the social criteria about sexual relationship. Another purpose of these talks is to change and formalize the sexual life and intimacy of the young, married men and women within the principles, morals and good manners of the republic. These talks also remind men and women about their sexual tasks and determine the necessities of the ideal sexual citizenship.

Bu çalışma, Türk modernleşmesi ve yurttaşlık araştırmalarında sesi yeterince işitilmemiş, fakat Cumhuriyet döneminin cinsellik-mahremiyet siyaseti ile ilgili istisnai yazılı kamusal metinlerinden biri olan Dânış Remzi Korokun gizli konuşmalarına veya cinsî terbiye kitaplarına (1936-1937) odaklanmaktadır. Korokun gizli konuşmaları, Cumhuriyet döneminin cinsî vatandaşlık ve biyo-politik ölçütlerini ifşa etmektedir. Bu konuşmalar genç erkeklere, genç kızlara, evli erkeklere, evli kadınlara, dul kadınlara ve dul erkeklere cinsî hayat ile ilgili malumatları ve sırları aktarmaktadır. Bu gizli konuşmaların tonu ve üslubu hem içten, arkadaşça hem de didaktik, öğüt verici ve tenkit edicidir. Bunun yanı sıra, bu konuşmalar, cinsî arzuları ve münasebetleri ölçülü bir şekilde yaşanması koşuluyla bir hak olarak savunmaktadır. Genç, evli, dul erkek ve kadınların cinsî hayatını, mahremiyetini Cumhuriyetin ilkeleri, ahlâkı, görgüsü dâhilinde dönüştürmeyi ve biçimlendirmeyi hedeflemektedir. Kadınlara ve erkeklere cinsî vazifelerini sürekli hatırlatmaktadır. Makbul cinsî vatandaşın sınırlarını belirlemektedir.
