Abstract

The article aims to grasp the parallelisms between the world of the asylum and the penitentiary by relating the process defined by Castel as the passage from dangerousness to risk to the statements of the new penology perspective. In so doing, the supermax prisons of the United States, which are considered to be perfect examples of the risk management rationality of new penology will be analyzed. By looking into these two specific fields, the article aims to comprehend the transformations in modes of social control and intervention in their relation to a wider societal transformation.

Bu makale Castelin psikiyatri alanında gözlemlediği ve tehlikelilikten riske geçiş olarak tanımladığı sürecin cezabilim alanında ne tür bir karşılığı olabileceği sorusuna yanıt aramaktadır. Bunu yaparken, ABDde son otuz yılda sayıları hızla artan ve yeni cezabilim anlayışı ile risk yönetiminin bir örneği olarak sunulan supermax hapishaneler örneğini kullanır. Bu iki alandan yola çıkarak, toplumsal denetim ve müdahale biçimlerindeki dönüşümü daha geniş çaplı bir toplumsal dönüşümün içinde kavramayı hedefler.
