Abstract

Currently, the texti le industry is mainly using the two basic commercial quantification methods na ely, SCI and FQI to evalu ate the techno logical values of samples of commercial DP -90 cotton genotyp s. Of late, re searchers were investigating that these two widely used cotton characterization ests as they seem to be insufficient to give quality an d processability information about the commercial cott ons. I this stu dy a modifie d fiber quality index (MFQI) is formulated for the studied commer cial DP-90 cotton. In the stu dy, experiments were don e to assess th e importance of the associ tion between tenacity and elongation of cotton fibres in theoverall evaluationf the cotton quality and processability. The results obtained from the study de monstrated that the cotto n fibreelonga tion propertyis critically i mportant to redict the quality and pro essability of cotton as wel l. The results obtained show thatthe combination ofHVI and CCS data allo ws us to pre dict quite ac urately techn ological valu es of cotton fiber properties forcommercial bales.
