Air Conditioning and Indoor Air Quality in Public Transportation Systems

Abstract

The air conditioning of the cabinets and stations where public transport takes place is important for comfort, hygiene and safety. In the present study, standards are provided about the internal and environmental conditions of the air conditioning of the public transport systems. The qualifications of the air conditioning units for the mentioned systems are introduced. Recent studies about thermal comfort, and quality of indoor air are summarized and evaluated in order to enlighten the design engineer. Also, the studies about the quality of indoor air in the platforms and wagons of subway systems, in railway systems, in wagons and buses in the world and in our country are summarized including the widely accepted standards. Detailed list of standards are provided for the air conditioning of public transport systems (such as metro-rail systems and buses), for heating, cooling and keeping the humidity in the acceptable limits as well as assuring a clean internal environment. In brief, a comprehensive compilation was made that is essential for designers in this area by examining papers, conference proceedings, articles, standards and postgraduate thesis studies on parameters such as indoor environment conditions, thermal comfort, indoor air quality related to ventilation and indoor air quality in public transportation systems. A comprehensive and complete list of air conditioning and interior air quality standards are given for the first time for the operation and design of the public transportation systems.

İnsanların toplu halde yolculuk yaptığı toplu taşıma sistemlerinin kabinlerinin ve istasyonlarının iklimlendirilmesi konfor, hijyen ve güvenlik açısından önemlidir. Mevcut çalışmada toplu taşıma sistemleri iklimlendirilmesinde iç ve çevresel şartlar hakkında standartlar verilmiştir. Bu tip sistemlerde kullanılması gereken iklimlendirme sistemlerinin özellikleri tanıtılmıştır. Isıl konfor ve iç hava kalitesi üzerine son yıllarda yapılan çalışmaların bu tarz sistemlerin tasarımına yol göstermesi amacıyla bir değerlendirmesi verilmiştir . Ayrıca dünyada ve ülkemizde metro sistemlerin peron ve vagonlarında, raylı sistemlerin vagonlarında ve otobüslerde iç hava kalitesi konusunda yapılmış çalışmalar gösterilerek kabul edilebilir referans değerler belirtilmiştir. Metro-raylı sistemler ve otobüsler gibi toplu taşıma sistemlerinin iklimlendirilmesinde ortamın ısıtılması, soğutulması, neminin uygun değerlerde tutulması ve temiz bir iç ortamın temini konularında kabul edilebilir normlar sunulmuştur. Özetle toplu taşıma sistemlerinde havalandırma ve iç hava kalitesi konularıyla ilgili iç ortam koşulları, ısıl konfor, iç hava kalitesi gibi parametreler üzerine yapılmış bildiri, konferans tebliği, makaleler, standartlar ve lisansüstü tez çalışmaları incelenerek bu alanda tasarım yapanlara yol gösterecek bir alt yapı çalışması oluşturulmuştur. İncelenen çalışmalar değerlendirilerek bulunan sonuçlar özetlenmiştir. Toplu taşıma sistemlerinde havalandırma ve iç hava kalitesiyle ilgili dizayn ve işletme ile ilgili başlıca standartların kapsamlı listesi ilk kez bu çalışmada verilmiştir.
