Toe to thumb transfer in traumatic amputation

Abstract

Loss of finger in a hand is a serious loss from point of view functional and aesthetic problem. Forty percent of all hand function require a healty thumb. Aim of thumb reconstruction is to constitute a thumb which has an ideal length and appearance with maximum stability, motion ability and sensation. Great toe and second toe are the most appropriate alternatives which have these properties for achievement of the functional, sensational and aesthetic goals. Left second, toe was transplanted to right thumb stump of a male patient who was 26 years old and whose right thumb was avulsed 7 month ago in an accident. A satisfying result regarding the original length, sensation and cover restoration and cosmetic healing was obtained postoperatively.

Özet

Elde parmak yokluğu fonksiyonel ve estetik açıdan ciddi bir kayıptır. Elin tüm fonksiyonlarını sağlamada başparmak %40 oranında öneme sahiptir. Başparmak rekonstrüksiyonunun amacı ideal uzunluk ve görünümde, maksimum stabilite, hareket kabiliyeti ve duyuya sahip orjinale yakın başparmak oluşturmaktır. Ayak birinci ve ikinci parmağı fonksiyon, duyu ve estetik açıdan hu özellikleri karşılayan en uygun seçenektir. Bu amaçla 26 yaşında, 7 ay önce iş kazası sonucu sağ el başparmakta avülziyon yaralanması oluşmuş erkek hastaya, sol ayak 2. parmağı el başparmağı yerine transplante edildi. Postoperatif olarak, uzunluk, duyu ve örtü restorasyonu, kozmetik iyileşme yönünden orjinale yakın bir sonuç elde edildi.
