THE USE OF TURKISH FOLKLORE AND TURKISH FOLK LITERATURE ELEMENTS IN TEACHING TURKISH TO FOREIGNERS: ISTANBUL TURKISH LANGUAGE TEACHING SET SAMPLE

Abstract

Language is not only means of communication within a nation itself but also means of tool that transmits the culture, folklore, and literature of the society to which it belongs to. The basic steps of language teaching, i.e. reading, listening, writing and speaking skills, are also the most important steps in teaching Turkish language. While these skills are taught to the students, it is made use of Turkish folklore and Turkish literature Language teaching is also transmitting a cultural. The culture of a nation is also learned alongside the target language. Nowadays it is possible to observe these examples. While Turkish is taught in Turkey and abroad, Turkish traditions and customs, food, clothing are taught as well as genres such as fairy tales, legends, folk stories and poetry etc. Elements of Turkish folklore and Turkish literature were often used in Dîvânu Lugâti’t Turk (Compendium of the languages of the Turks), which is the first book written in the field of teaching Turkish to foreigners. We need quite a lot of such elements to make the language taught more permanent. The teaching staff who are teaching Turkish as a second language both in Turkey and abroad generally benefit from folklore and folk literature. Özet

Dil, bir milletin kendi arasında anlaşma aracı olduğu gibi ait olduğu toplumun kültürünü, folklorunu, edebiyatını da taşıma aracıdır. Dil öğretiminin temel basamağı olan okuma, dinleme, yazma ve konuşma becerileri Türkçe öğretiminde de en önemli basamaktır. Öğrenciye bu beceriler öğretilirken Türk folklorundan ve Türk edebiyatından da faydalanır. Dil öğretimi aynı zamanda bir kültür aktarımıdır. Dili öğrenilen milletin kültürü de öğrenilmektedir. Bu örnekleri günümüzde görmek mümkündür. Türkiye’de ve yurtdışında Türkçe öğretilirken masal, efsane, halk hikâyesi, şiir vb. türlerin yanı sıra gelenek ve görenekler, yemekler, giyim‐kuşam da öğretilmektedir. Yabancılara Türkçe öğretimi alanında yazılan ilk kitap olan Dîvânu Lugâti’t Türk’te Türk folkloruna ve Türk edebiyatına ait unsurlar oldukça sık kullanılmıştır. Öğretilen dilin daha kalıcı olması için bu gibi unsurlara oldukça ihtiyacımız vardır. Umumiyetle gerek Türkiye’de gerekse yurtdışında ikinci dil olarak Türkçe öğreten öğretim elemanları halkbilimini ve halk edebiyatını sık sık kullanmaktadır. Biz bu makalemizde İstanbul Türkçe Öğretim Seti’nde kullanılan Türk halkbilimi ve Türk halk edebiyatı unsurlarını ele alacağız.
