Occipitocervical meningocele in association with cervicothoracal hemivertebrae in a 4-month old baby

Abstract
Occipitocervical meningocele in association with cervicothoracal hemivertebrae in a 4-month old baby Occipitocervical localization of meningocele or myelomeningocele is rare. Thoracic and lumbar spinal levels are the most common localization for meningoceles. The study presents a 4-month baby girl, who was diagnosed at intrauterine with an occipitocervical meningocele. At birth the patient was found to be neurological intact. Spinal x - ray films revealed an appearance of hemivertebra in cervical and upper thoracal levels. CT and MRI studies showed a meningocele in occipitocervical region as well as spina bifida. Surgery was performed at four months of age; the patient underwent a repair of the occipitocervical meningocele. The patient remained neurologically intact after the repair of her meningocele. Thirty-two months later, the patient was very well.
Özet
Meningosel ya da myelomeningosel'in oksipitoservikal lokalizasyonu nadirdir. Bu lezyonların en sık lokalizasyonu torasik ve lomber spinal düzeyleridir. Bu çalışmada, intrauterin oksipitoservikal meningosel tanısı alan dört aylık bir kız olgu sunulmaktadır. Doğum sonrası nörolojik muayenesinin normal olduğu tespit edildi. Direkt spinal grafîlerde, servikal ve üst torakal düzeylerde hemivertebra görünümünü tespit edildi. BT ve MRG tetkikleri, spina bifidanın yanısıra oksipitoservikal alanda bir meningoseli gösterdi. Doğum sonrasında dördüncü ayda, meningosele yönelik olarak ameliyat gerçekleştirildi. Meningoselin tamiri sonrasında hasta nörolojik olarak normaldi. Ameliyat sonrası 32 ay geçtikten sonra, olgunun durumu çok iyiydi.
