Abstract
The purposes of this study were to identify, name, classifiy economically important roses of Türkiye, their generations to protect in a new collection garden. The study was completed between 2012 and 2014 in based on the samples planted on the SDU Botanical Garden and plant-house. The method of characterization studies has been developed by us and done in GUL Herbarium. Türkiye has a great collection of Rosa genus. This diversity should be protected and brought into economy. In this study; 218 genotypes related to 46 species and 55 taxa of native roses of Türkiye have been identified. It is 23 described cultivars of them. There are 24 wild and 22 old garden rose species. Most of taxa are sitting and outdoor; some of them are ivy type and indoor plants. The most genotypes are in old garden roses: It represented by genotypes of R. odorata 19, R. borboniana 15, R. chinensis 7, R. centifolia 6, R. banksiae 6 and R. alpina 4. Very few of the under taxa of species could be named. The number of cultivars named for economic purposes is 23. Identifying and naming cultivars seems impossible for Türkiye, as the genus does not have an identification key even for species. The produced roses were delivered to İstanbul Ağaç ve Peyzaj A.Ş. and a collection garden was created in the garden of the relevant company. Rooting success from cuttings was 35 % in general. It gave about 10% wastage in the process of taken into pots. Success was higher in those that were rooted in the soil and taken into pots. The rooting success of 2-3 years old cuttings were higher if planting was done in autumn or early spring. In natural roses, rooting success from cuttings was lower than garden roses. Germination did not occur in seed production studies.
