Abstract

Freesia leichtlinii subsp. alba (Iridaceae), naturally occurring in the Cape region of South Africa, is recorded for the first time as a naturalized exotic taxon for the flora of Turkey. The populations belonging to the taxon detected in the Adalar region of Istanbul (Kınalıada, Heybeliada and Burgazada) were monitored for the following three years, and tracked whether the taxon became naturalized, continued vegetative and generative reproduction without human influence, and whether it formed a continuous population. Then, by checking the list of alien flora of Turkey and the world lists of alien plants, it was concluded that the taxon was recorded for Turkey for the first time. In current study, description, habitat characteristics, photographs, distribution map and new Turkish name of the plant are given.
