A Scale Development Study for Evaluating Distance Education Process

Uzaktan Eğitim Sürecini Değerlendirmeye Yönelik Ölçek Geliştirme Çalışması

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a scale that focuses on the perspective of learners and instructors experiencing distance education in a holistic manner, including the features of the learning management system. Within this scope, the scale covers the accessibility, usability, attitude, technological facilities and self-efficacy sub-dimensions of distance education. Accordingly, the final implementations of the 25-item scale were realized with the participation of 1923 university students. The exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted by using SPSS and R statistics programs as proof of the construct validity of the scale. The findings obtained show that the five-factor structure of the scale can explain 70.479% of the total variance. The reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated as .954. In the analyses performed for model fit, the RMSEA value was calculated as .05, GFI value as .93, AGFI value as .92, SRMR value as .04, TLI value as .96, CFI value as .96 and NFI value as .95. These values provide information that the collected data is compatible with the hypothesized model.

Bu çalışmanın amacı uzaktan eğitim sürecini deneyimleyen öğrencilerin uzaktan eğitime bakış açılarını öğrenme yönetim sisteminin özelliklerini de kapsayacak şekilde ele alan bir ölçek geliştirmektir. Çalışma kapsamında geliştirilen ölçek uzaktan eğitimin erişilebilirlik, kullanılabilirlik, tutum, teknolojik olanaklar ve özyeterlik alt boyutlarını içermektedir. Buna göre, 25 maddenin yer aldığı ölçeğin gerçek uygulamaları 1923 üniversite öğrencisinin katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ölçme aracının yapı geçerliğinin kanıtı olarak SPSS ve R istatistik programlarının kullanıldığı açımlayıcı ve doğrulayıcı faktör analizleri yürütülmüştür. Elde edilen bulgular ölçeğin beş faktörlü yapısı ile toplam varyansın %70.479’unu açıklayabildiğini göstermektedir. Ölçeğin güvenirlik katsayısı .954 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Model uyumu için gerçekleştirilen analizlerde ise RMSEA değeri .05, GFI değeri .93, AGFI değeri .92, SRMR değeri .04, TLI değeri .96, CFI değeri .96 ve NFI değeri ise .95 olarak elde edilmiştir. Bu değerler toplanan verilerin önerilen modele uyumunun sağlandığına yönelik bilgiler vermektedir.
