Abstract

This study analyses the use of artificial stone used in the restoration of old stone buildings in the 1900s, an architectural aplication peculiar to Istanbul. With the opening up to the west, architectural trends from Europa had been adopted in Istanbul. In this environment, stone buildings, their materials were studied. Once the original stone type had been ascertained, the most suitable natural stone available was selected for restoration work later, with consideration of the usage on these buildings, an artificial stone was produced for this function. The results of identical tests carried out on these two sorts of stone were compared, with the result that the artificial product was selected as the most suitable for this kind of work where necessary.

Özet

Bu çalışmada, istanbul'da farklı bir mimari tarz özelliği gösteren ve 1900'lü yıllarda yapılmış olan kargir eski eserlerin onarımlarında, yapay taş malzeme kullanımının analizi amaçlanmıştır. Avrupa 'da sanayi devrimi sonrasında oluşan mimari akımlar Avrupa'ya açılma çabaları ile istanbul'a taşınmıştır. Bu etkiler ile üretilmiş yapılar, tarz özellikleri, yapım tekniği ve malzeme açısından incelenmişlerdir. Bu yapılarda kullanılmış taş türleri tespit edilmiş ve günümüzde bu malzemeye en uygun olabilecek doğal taş araştırılmıştır. Daha sonra yapılarda kullanılması düşünülerek, yapay taş üretilmiş ve hem doğal hem de yapay taşlara aynı deneyler yapılarak sonuçlar karşılaştırılmıştır. Yapılan çalışmada gerekli olması halinde yapay taş kullanımı öngörülmüştür.
