Abstract

The potential for using this sludge for tine-treatment of vegetable oil industry wastewater by coagulation has been investigated. For this purpose, the optimum dosage and optimum pH have been investigated for the removal of COD, SS and oil and grease. The sludge acted as a coagulant and removed COD with excellent removal efficiencies. Under the condition of 1900 mg/L water works sludge dose and pH 8.5, %74 COD, %99 oil and grease and %84 SS removals were obtained. The efficiency of sludge was also compared with fresh ferric chloride and combination of these coagulants with waterworks sludge. Therefore it was found that waterworks sludge is used as a coagulant, while simultaneously reducing the fresh ferric chloride dosage, of which %94 of the fresh ferric chloride can be saved.
