Retrospective evaluation of the echinococcosis cases regarding histopathological aspect

Abstract

Objective: Retrospective evaluation of 28 cases, diagnosed as hydatid cyst pathologically in our centre pathology laboratory, from surgical departments was the objective of the study. Methods: 28 cases diagnosed as hydatid cyst in our hospital have been reviewed retrospectively and patients age, gender and localizations of disease have been determined. Results: Based on histopathologic evaluation hydatid cyst cases were localized mostly on liver 19 (68%), followed by lung 7 (24%), glutea 1 (3.5%) and axilla 1 (3.5%). 15 (54%) of the patients were male and 13 (46%) were female. The age range of the cases were 7-73, while the median age of males were 30.2±19.5 years, the median age of females were 35.9±19.2. Necrosis has been determined in 2 (7.1%) of cases in pathologic evaluation of hydatid cyst. Conclusion: The pathologic evaluation of all cystic surgical specimens should include the careful examination of the elements of this parasite especially where hydatid cyst is endemic.

Özet

Amaç: Çalışmada Ocak 2008-Haziran 2013 yılları arasında cerrahi kliniklerden patoloji laboratuvarına gönderilen ve patolojik olarak kist hidatik tanısı konulan 28 olguya ait materyallerin retrospektif olarak değerlendirilmesi amaçlandı. Yöntemler: Hastanemizde kist hidatik tanısı konulan 28 olgunun kayıtları incelendi; hastaların yaş ve cinsiyet bilgileri ile kist hidatik lokalizasyonları kaydedildi. Bulgular: Histopatolojik incelemesi yapılmış kist hidatik olgularında en sık lokalizasyonun 19 (%68) olgu ile karaciğerde, 7 (%25) olgu ile akciğerde, 1 (%3,5) olgu ile gluteal bölgede ve 1 (%3,5) olgu ile sağ aksiller bölgede bulunduğu saptandı. Hastaların 15 (%54)i erkek 13 (%46)ü ise kadındı. Olguların yaşları 7 ile 73 arasında olup erkeklerde yaş ortalaması 30,2±19,5 yıl, kadınlarda ise yaş ortalaması 35,9±19,2 idi. Ayrıca hidatik kist olgularının patolojik incelemesinde 2 (%7,1) olguda nekroz tesbit edildi. Sonuç: Kist hidatiğin endemik olduğu bölgelerde özellikle kistik cerrahi örneklerin tamamının patolojik değerlendirilmesinde bu parazite ait yapıların dikkatle incelenmesi önemlidir.
