Abstract

Objective: The aim of the study is to examine the subregions that are important for different professions in terms of lip beauty and attractiveness, to measure the soft tissue lip ratios in our society and to compare these values with the golden ratio. Material and Methods: Seventy-eight (78) female patients with a mean age of 25.8±7.3 years were included in the study. Photographs were taken by a professional photographer at a fixed distance and analyzed by a single person. They were grouped as normal (1.6-1.699), short ( 1.699) according to the golden ratio. A questionnaire was applied to four occupational groups to evaluate lip attractiveness. Results: The mean Stomion (Stm)-mentum (Mn)/subnasale (Sb)-Stm facial analysis ratio was 2.01±0.21 [95% CI (1.96-2.05)] and the morphology was 5.1% normal, 93.6% long, 1.3% short. Lower lip thickness (AD)/upper lip thickness lip analysis ratio average was 1.40±0.29 [95% CI (1.34- 1.47)], lip morphology was 2.6% normal, 16.7% long and 80.8% short. As a result of the lip survey, ear nose and throat doctors and painters indicated the lower and upper lip thickness and the upper lip line-philtrum in the first place, while plastic surgery doctors and advertisers indicated the lip color and the upper lip line-philtrum in the first place. In the evaluations of all participants, the upper lip line-philtrum (n=19, 95%) section was listed first. Conclusion: When the analyzes were evaluated according to the golden ratio, the lower 1/3 of the face was 93.6% long and the lower and upper lip ratio was 80.8% short. These ratios may affect the aesthetic appearance of the face morphologically. Apart from these rates, the perception of beauty of surgeons and patients may be different. Therefore, in order to create a natural aesthetic appearance of the lip in medical aesthetic applications, all these factors need to be carefully reviewed.
