Isolated sphenoid sinusitis

Abstract
Sphenoid sinusitis, usually not an isolated disease, occurs after posterior etmoid sinusitis. Isolated sphenoid sinusitis is a rare disease and the diagnosis is fraught with difficulties. Delay in treatment due to non-specific symptoms leads to serious and fatal complications. After the advent of endoscopie examination, computerized tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging, diagnosis of isolated sphenoid sinusitis is increasing in number. In this study, symptoms, etiologic factors, diagnosis and treatment of eight patients diagnosed as isolated sphenoid sinusitis were discussed. The parenteral antibiotic treatment was administered to the patients. Endoscopie sfenoidotomy was performed in one patient who still had symptoms despite the treatment. Özet
Sfenoid sinüzit çoğu zaman ayrı bir hastalık olmayıp, posterior etmoid sinüzitin tutulumu sonucu oluşur. İzole sfenoid sinüzit nadir bir hastalık olup teşhisinde güçlüklerle karşılaşılmaktadır. Semptomların non-spesifik olması nedeniyle tedavisindeki gecikmeler ciddi ve hayati komplikasyonlara neden olabilmektedir. Endoskopik muayene, Bilgisayarlı tomografi ve manyetik rezonansın yaygın olarak kullanılmaya başlanması ile izole sfenoid sinüzit tanısında artış olmaya başlamıştır. Bu çalışmada izole sfenoid sinüzit tanısı konan 8 hastanın semptomları, etiyolojik faktörleri, teşhis ve tedavi yöntemleri değerlendirildi. Hastalara parenteral antibiyotik tedavisi yapıldı. Tedaviye rağmen şikayetleri geçmeyen bir hastaya endoskopik sfenoidotomi yapıldı. Hastaların tamamı komplikasyonsuz ve sekelsiz olarak iyileşti. İzole sfenoid sinüzit erken tanı ve agresif tedavi ile komplikasyonsuz olarak iyileşebilen bir hastalıktır.
