Abstract

Temporomandibular joint (TMIJ arthroscopy of 30 patients under general anesthesia was performed. Limited range of motion of mandible secondary to intraarticular pathology and pain were indi¬cations for TMJ arthroscopy. The post-operative improvement of these patients were evaluated and com¬pared with pre-operative measurements. Functional impairment following arthroscopy was minor and lasted only a few days. No post-operative bleeding, nerve damage or infection was observed. In conclusion, TMJ arthroscopy is very helpful mainly for diagnostic purposes and also has a definite role en treating restricted range of motion secondary to intraarticular pathology.
