Comparison of the modified goode t-tube with the paparella type-1 tube in children with chronic otitis media with effusion

Abstract

Persistent middle ear effusion causes tympanic membrane atrophy, atelectasia chronic otitis and cholesteato¬ma. Ventilation tubes provide safe and effective treatment for patients with recurrent or chronic otitis media with effusion. The aim of this prospective study is the comparison of the modified Goode T-tube with the Paparella type-l tube with respect to the duration of intubation, efficacy and complication rates. The study included 30 patients with 60 intubakions. Average follow-up was 22.3 months. The results were different with regard to duration of staying in the tympanic membrane. T-tube had a longer stay period than the other tube. Otorrhea occurred in 26.6 percent of the T-tube and 10 percent of the Parparella tube inserted ears. Tyempa-nosclerosis was quite common in both groups.

İnatçı effüzyonlu otitis media; timpan membran atrofisi, atelektazi, kronik otit ve kolesteatoma neden olur. Ventilas¬yon tüpleri, rekürren veya kronik effüzyonlu otitis medialı hastalarda güvenli ve etkili tedavi sağlar. Bu prospektif çalışma¬nın amacı, modifiye Goode T tüp ile Paparella tip-l tüpün kalış süresi, etkinliği ve komplikasyon oranlarını karşılaştırmak¬tır. Çalışma, 60 ventilasyon tüpü 30 hastayı kapsamaktaydı. Ortalama takip 22.3 aydı. Sonuçlar, tüplerin timpan zarda kalış süresine bağlı olarak değişiyordu. T-tüp Paparella tüpten daha uzun süre kalmaktay¬dı. Otore, T-tüpte %26.6, Paparella tüpte %J0 oranda gözlendi. Timpanoskleroz her iki grupta da oldukça yaygındı.
