THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW URBAN POVERTY CONCEPT AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH GLOBALIZATION

Abstract

Global developments in recent years have affected the urban life deeply and have also changed the structure of urban poverty, which is a socio-cultural and economic phenomenon. The increasing pace of urbanization, the global changes and the widening of the poverty network have caused poverty in cities to become permanent and increase the number of poor individuals and thus, urban poverty has gained a different dimension. The new urban poverty has changed the place and actors of poverty in the city.

Son yıllarda dünya ölçeğinde yaşanan küresel gelişmeler kentsel yaşamı derinden etkilediği gibi, sosyo-kültürel ve aynı zaman da ekonomik bir olgu olan kentsel yoksulluğun yapısını da değiştirmiştir. Kentleşmenin artan hızla devam etmesi, küresel değişimler ve yoksulluk ağının genişlemesi, kentlerde yoksulluğun kalıcı hale gelmesine ve yoksul birey sayısının artmasına neden olmuş ve böylece kentsel yoksulluk farklı bir boyut kazanmıştır. Yeni kentsel yoksulluk, kentteki yoksulluğun mekânını da, aktörlerini de değiştirmiştir.
