A PHILOSOPHICAL VIEW OF CHAOS THEORY

Abstract

Chaos theory is a young theory which is still being developed. Having evolved in the last fifty years, chaos theory has contributed significantly to our understanding of micro and macro events, facts and processes of the universe. In this paper I tried to raise attention to the conflicting aspects between the picture of the universe drawn by Chaos Theory and traditional ontological hypotheses by looking at them from a philosophical point of view. To achieve this mission, Chaos Theory is explained with its historical and conceptual characteristics and under the light of this information, picture of the universe drawn by chaos theory and the traditional ontological hypotheses are compared and philosophical interpretation of this theory is discussed.

Bilim dünyasının yeni ilgi alanlarından biri olan kaos teorisi, daha önceki fizik teorilerinin açıklamakta zorlandığı ya da ihmal ettiği birtakım olguları açıklığa kavuşturan ve hâlâ geliştirilmekte olan bir teoridir. Son elli yıl içinde geliştirilen kaos teorisi, evrendeki mikro ve makro olay, olgu ve süreçleri anlamamızda çok önemli bir katkıda bulunmuştur. Bu metinde kaos teorisinin çizdiği evren tablosu ile geleneksel ontolojinin varsayımlarının örtüşmeyen yönlerine felsefi bir eksen etrafında dikkat çekilmeye çalışılmıştır. Ardından kaos teorisi tarihsel ve kavramsal özellikleriyle tanıtılmış, bu bilgilerin ışığında kaos teorisinin sunduğu evren tablosu ile geleneksel ontolojinin varsayımları karşılaştırılarak, teorinin felsefi bir yorumu tartışılmaya çalışılmıştır.
