ARISTOTLE AND DESCARTES: TRANSFORMATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN METAPHYSICS, SCIENCE AND TECHNIQUE

ARİSTOTELES VE DESCARTES: METAFİZİK, BİLİM VE TEKNİK ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİNİN DÖNÜŞÜMÜ

Abstract

Aristotelian dynamic theory of physics is based on the concept of natural place. So, there is a goal that determines the direction of a movement. No matter what interactions between objects take place, the direction of movement of each object is determined by the inner tendency of that object, not the interactions. On the other hand, the dynamic theory of Descartes physics (mechanical physics) is based on the concept of interaction. So, what determines the direction of a movement is interactions among objects, not an internal orientation. The reason for this is the redefinition of Aristotle’s relationship established between metaphysics, science and technique together with Descartes. While metaphysics, in the Aristotelian system, as a theory of being, explains the ideal conditions and the relationship between these ideal situations and “Good” (God), Descartes put the “Subject” against the “Good” and changed the relationship Aristotle established between metaphysics, science and technique. This article attempts to analyze how mentioned transformation occurred.

Aristotelesçi fiziğin dinamik teorisi doğal yer kavramına dayanır. Yani bir hareketin aldığı istikameti belirleyen bir erek vardır. Nesneler aralarında hangi etkileşimlere girerlerse girsinler, her bir nesnenin sahip olduğu hareketin istikametini, bu etkileşimler değil, o nesnenin içsel temayülü belirler. Öte yandan Descartes fiziğinin (mekanik fiziğin) dinamik teorisi etkileşim kavramına dayanır. Yani bir hareketin aldığı istikameti belirleyen şey, nesneler arası etkileşimlerdir, içsel bir yönelim değil. Bunun nedeni Aristoteles’in metafizik, bilim ve teknik arasında kurmuş olduğu ilişkinin, Descartes ile birlikte yeniden tanımlanmasıdır. Aristotelesçi dizgede metafizik, bir varlık kuramı olarak ideal durumları ve o ideal durumların İyi (Tanrı) ile ilişkisini açıklarken, Descartes bu İyi’nin karşısına Özne’yi koymuş, Aristoteles’in metafizik, bilim ve teknik arasında kurmuş olduğu ilişkiyi değiştirmiştir. Bu makale, zikredilen dönüşümün nasıl gerçekleştiğini analiz etmeye çalışmaktadır.
