COPERNICAN REVOLUTION: THE FORMATION PROCESS OF MODERN COSMOLOGY

Abstract

The Copernican revolution is perhaps the most important event that takes place in the history of science and helps us understand the nature, power and limits of the human mind. This revolution is the name of the transition process from Earthcentered cosmology to Sun-centered cosmology. This shift was the combined result of numerous historical developments. But this revolution is not just a simple change of the astronomical model, but an attempt to interpret nature and culture from the perspective of mechanical philosophy. This philosophy that reduces nature to measurable and countable has positioned mathematics as the proper method of Science. Achievements in natural sciences have revealed the necessity of realigning cultural sciences on a similar philosophical ground and built the foundations of the world view that we call modernity today. This article aims to contribute to attempts to expose the metaphysical foundations on which modernity is based, through the analysis of the construction process of modern cosmology.

ÖZKopernik Devrimi, bilim tarihinde gerçekleşen ve insan aklının doğasını, gücünüve sınırlarını kavramamızda bize yardımcı olan belki de en önemli olaydır. Budevrim pek çok tarihsel gelişmenin bir sonucu olarak Dünya merkezli kozmolojidenGüneş merkezli kozmolojiye geçiş sürecine verilen isimdir. Fakat budevrim yalnızca basit bir astronomik model değişimi değil, doğayı ve kültürümekanik felsefenin perspektifinden yorumlama girişimidir. Doğayı ölçülebilirve sayılabilir olana indirgeyen bu felsefe, matematiği bilimin yöntemi olarakkonumlandırmıştır. Doğa bilimlerinde elde edilen başarılar, kültür bilimlerininde benzer bir felsefi zemine yaslanmasının gerekliliğini ortaya çıkarmış ve bugünmodernite dediğimiz dünya görüşünün temellerini inşa etmiştir. Bu makale, moderniteninyaslandığı metafizik temelleri açık kılma girişimlerine, modern kozmolojinininşa sürecinin analizi üzerinden katkı yapmayı amaçlamaktadır.
