Malignant melanoma of the parotid gland: A case report

Abstract
Primary malignant melanoma arising from the parotid salivary gland is extremely rare. The most common symptom presents as a progressively enlarging, firm, and fixed mass. Enlargement of the parotid gland was detected in a 63-year-old woman. The mass became accentuated over the past six months. Examination of the sections of the superficial parotidectomy specimen showed malignant melanoma. A primary melanocytic lesion could not be documented. The patient was administered chemotherapy. No local recurrences or metastatic lesions were encountered during a year follow-up.

Parotisten köken alan primer malign melanom olguları son derece nadirdir. En sık semptom progresif büyüyen, sert, fikse kitle şeklindedir. Parotis bezindeki büyümesi son altı ayda belirginleşen 63 yaşında bir kadın olgu sunuyoruz. Hastada süperfisyel parotidektomi ve periparotideal lenfadenektomi uygulandı. Süperfisyel parotidektomi materyalinin kesitlerinin incelenmesi malign melanom varlığını ortaya koydu. Retrospektif primer melanositik odağı belirleme çalışmaları sonuç vermedi. Kemoterapi uygulanan olgunun bir yıldır süren takibinde lokal nüks veya metastaz görülmedi.
