Radiologic and morphologic evaluation of the styloid process

Abstract
Objectives: To determine the morphology of the styloid process, which is of relevance in Eagle's syndrome. Design and Methods: Radiographic and morphologic evaluation of the length and angulation of the styloid process was made in 55 skulls. Results: No significant differences were found in radiographic measurements. Medial angulation exceeded normal range in 22 skulls. Conclusion: The length and angulation of the styloid process may vary and radiographic evaluation seems to be an easy tool in determining these values.

Amaç: Uzun stiloid proçes (Eagle) sendromunda önem taşıyan stiloid çıkıntının morfolojisini belirlemek. Çalışma Planı ve Yöntemler: Elli beş kafatasında stiloid çıkıntı uzunluğu ve açılanması radyolojik ve morfolojik olarak değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Radyolojik ölçümlerde önemli bir fark görülmedi. Yirmi iki kafatasında ortalamanın üstünde medial açılanma saptandı. Sonuç: Stiloid çıkıntının boyu ve açılanması farklılıklar gösterebilmektedir. Boy ve açılanmayı belirlemede radyolojik değerlendirme rahatlıkla kullanılabilir.
