Abstract
Throughout history, people have had to leave their homeland, for which they paid for different reasons. In this process, occurring along with migrations for centuries, the change from national identities to diasporic identities has been one of the significant topics stil discussed and investigated now a days. With the diasporas created in different parts of the world, the fact that factors such as 'identity', 'culture', and 'acceptance' pave the way for change and transformation in individuals has been investigated in many areas of Social sciences. Moreover, it is observed that Artists also carry the theme of diaspora to their works in different disciplines of art. Based on the concept of diaspora, in this study, it was attempted to analyze how contemporary fiber artists in the exhibition "Stories of Migration: Contemporary Artists Interpret Diaspora" reflected the effect of the concepts 'other', 'memory,' and 'identity' on art through textile techniques and materials, which are an important part of the culture, over their works. In this study conducted to raise awareness, the historical truths, physical destruction, and prejudgment in the art world, where different textile materials and techniques are used and which finds the modern-day odd, are visually discussed. Among the works of artists approved by six guests and thirty-eight jury members, who asked the viewers questions to be thought over, eight different works were addressed. While addressing the samples of the study, the diasporic identity experiences of individuals or communities from different cultures were considered, and analyses and reviews were performed on these samples. While the data obtained from the United States of America the George Washington University and Textile Museum, where the exhibition was held, and works of artists constituted the visual documents of the study, the general review of the literature was conducted using means such as books, theses, articles, and internet resources.
