Studies on spermatologic features and measurements of testes in Hamdane rams

Abstract
This study was conducted to determine some spermatologic characteristics and measurements oftestes in Hamdane rams. Five rams aged between 18-20 months were used in this study. Semen samples were collected by artificial vagina during breeding season and examined for colour, volume, massactivity, individual motility, concentration, dead and abnormal spermatozoon rates. In addition to these, testes volume, scrotal circumference, testes lenght and width were measured three times at twenty - day intervals. In conclusion, all features of semen samples were in normal conditions and measurements of their testes were near to the other native breeds in Turkey.
Özet
Bu çalışma, Hamdane ırkı koçlarda bazı spermatolojik özellikler ve testis ölçülerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapıldı. Çalışmada 18-20 aylık 5 baş koç kullanıldı. Sperma örnekleri aşım sezonunda suni vajen yöntemiyle alındı ve sperma miktarı, renk, kitle hareketi, motilite, yoğunluk, ölü ve anormal spermatozoon oranları yönünden muayene edildi. Ayrıca testis hacmi, skrotal çevre uzunluğu, testis uzunluğu ve genişliği 20 gün aralıklarla 3 kez ölçüldü. Sonuç olarak, Hamdane ırkı koçların tüm spermatolojik özelliklerinin normal sınırlar içerisinde ve testis ölçülerinin yerli ırklarımıza yakın olduğu belirlendi.
