Does Visual Aritmetics Education Support Visual Perception Development of Children

Mental Aritmetik Eğitimi Çocukların Görsel Algı Gelişimini Destekliyor mu?

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the effect of mental arithmetic education on the visual perception development of five-year old children. The study was conducted at Ministry of Agriculture and kindergartens in the academic year 2013-2014. The study employs control groups with "pre-test, post-test" experimental design. The experiment made use of the results of the FVP pre-test results in order to equate the visual perception levels of the experimental (15) and control (15) groups. FVP Test was employed as the data collection tool. Test comprises five sub-dimensions. The Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient was .84. Mann Whitney U- and Wilcoxon Signed Ranked tests were used in order to test the significance of the data obtained from FVP test in statistical terms. The results of the study suggest that mental arithmetic education offered additionally in the curriculum could support the visual perception development of the experiment group students

Bu araştırmanın amacı mental aritmetik eğitiminin beş yaş çocuklarının görsel algı gelişimlerine etkisini saptamaktır. Araştırma Tarım Bakanlığı'na bağlı okul öncesi eğitim kurumunda 2013-2014 öğretim yılında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada "öntest sontest kontrol gruplu deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Deney (15) ve kontrol (15) grubunun görsel algı düzeylerini eşitlemek için Frostig Görsel Algı ön test sonuçlarından yararlanılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak Frostig Görsel Algı Testi, kullanılmıştır. Test; Göz-Motor koordinasyonu, Şekil-zemin algılaması, Şekil sabitliği, Mekan içinde konumun Algılanması ve Mekansal İlişkilerin Algılanması olmak üzere beş alt alandan oluşmaktadır. Bu çalışmada testin Cronbach Alpha güvenirlik katsayısı .84 bulunmuştur. Gruplara ön test ve son test olarak uygulanan FGA testinden elde edilen verilerin istatistik açıdan anlamlılığının test edilebilmesi için Mann Whitney U- ve Wilcoxon İşaretli Sıralar testlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre, okul programına ek olarak verilen mental aritmetik eğitimin deney grubu öğrencilerinin görsel algı gelişimini desteklediği söylenebilir. Görsel algı gelişimi ve mental aritmetik eğitiminin güçlendirilmesi yönünde önerilerde bulunulmuştur
