Abstract

Inverted Papillomas Of Urothelium- Inverted papillomas are rare lesions of urothelium characterized by inward proliferation of normal urothelium into the lamina propria. The lesions are usually found in the bladder and the upper urinary tract is rarely involved. These lesions are characteristically formed by invaginated epithelial cords and often misdiagnosed as low grade transitional cell carcinoma. Four cases diagnosed in a ten-year period are reported here. The lesions were in the bladder in 3 patients and localised in the mid-ureter in the ramaining case. The reported coexistence with low-grade transitional cell carcinoma elsewhere in the urinary tract and existence of transitional cell carcinoma on the surface of the inverted papilloma indicate that regular follow-up is mandatory for these patients.
